Racial Justice NOW! has pushed the limits of its culturally relevant curriculum campaign and made a music video for children to learn to! Help support our campaign to promote culturally relevant curriculum and to help send our Anthony Tony Browder Scholars to Washington, D.C.
RJN! is in the second year of its campaign to promote culturally relevant curriculum (crc) and cultually responsive schools. There is a great need for non-white children to see themselves in the schools curriculum and textbooks that they are educated with everyday. CRC increases student engagement, self-esteem, grades, and produces better students.
In our first year of the campaign we attended conferences, conducted research, hosted webinars, and gave one demand to our local school board (Dayton Public). We demanded that they include two books into the school curriculum, by policy, (Mis-edcation of the Negro by Dr. Carter G. Woodson and Up From Slavery by Dr. Booker T. Washington).
In the second year, our demands were answered by the school board and the two books were added to the course of study. We also put our research done from the first year into a toolkit (rjnohio.org/crctk) and put it online for free.
We became the eight chapter of the Dayton Browder Scholars Program are educating youth directly, on Saturdays, using the book ‘From the Browder Files’.
