West Dayton Youth Task Force and RJN! bring home HUGE win with Dayton Public Schools curriculum change

The West Dayton Youth Task Force and Racial Justice NOW! are extremely proud to share a HUGE win on behalf of Black families in the Dayton, Ohio area. To conclude our first year campaign to promote culturally relevant curriculum and culturally responsive schools we successfully organized to get the Dayton Public School District (with approximately 14,000 students) to implement two books into their course of study as mandatory reading for all high school students: Up From Slavery by Booker T. Washington and Mis-Education of the Negro by Dr. Carter G. Woodson.

These two books are considered timeless classics and will provide students a strong foundation as to what they can accomplish in this world.  Both of these books will be listed in our CRC/CRS Toolkit, which will have its first release on October 23rd in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Dignity in Schools Campaign week of action national event with the Community for Just Schools Fund and rapper, record producer,  and actor Mr. David Banner.

The WDYTF and RJN! will continue to push forward curriculum change, ensuring that Black children know their history and are able to learn the lessons of the past so that they can build a better future.
